January 1, 2004 saw four club members participate in the Southborough and District Wheelers 10-mile time trial on course Q10/10. Thornton RC Riders and times are shown in the table that follows.

Club events in 2004 have concentrated on time trials. Club riders were encouraged to ride the Ashford Wheelers' trials (10 miles and 25 miles) held every Wednesday throughout the summer, and the Tenterden Cycling Club's 10-mile time trials, held on Friday evenings from mid-July. From 17 July 2004, Thornton Road Club commenced time trials on its own course - Q10/12 - every Saturday at 7.30 am. Course preparation and timekeeping were in the capable hands of club members Mike Windsor and Gordon Davis. For the first eight sessions, the start of the course was near to Brooker Farm on the Newchurch to Ivychurch road, with the finish line about three quarters of a mile north of Newchurch. This finish line proved to be unsatisfactory because of traffic congestion. Beginning with the trial held on 11 September 2004, new start and finish lines were adopted. From that date, the start was set in Norwood Lane approximately 0.4 miles north of St Mary in the Marsh. The course proceeds through St Mary in the Marsh to the New Romney-Newchurch road, then north to Newchurch, and then west at Newchurch along Newchurch Lane to Ivychurch. There the course is as before, south to the left turn towards St Mary in the Marsh. The new finish line is about 200 yards past Honeychild Manor Farm, and about 150 yards before the junction with Norwood Lane. Time trial headquarters are unchanged at Newchurch Village Hall.

Time trials should continue through to end of September weather permitting.

Despite the flatness of the Q10/12 course, it has proved to be a challenge for all riders, with adverse winds often playing the role of hills on other courses. Best times have been between 24 and 25 minutes for men and between 28 and 29 minutes for women. Full results are given in the table below.
