Accidents on the road

Spate of accidents cause concern.

Enthusiasm for the Sunday morning rides continues, with impressive turn-outs and a regular influx of new members. Generally the Sunday rides are an enjoyable, safe event, providing a good work-out, followed by a get together and chat at the cafe. However the recent spate of accidents is causing concern and much discussion amongst Club members.

On 11th July one rider touched the wheel of the bike in front and came down - sustaining cuts and grazes.
On 18th July an accident involved a pile up of three riders - two riders sustaining grazes and the third, several broken ribs and a punctured lung.
On 25th July one rider collided with a stationary car - sustaining a broken collar bone; and on the same day, two riders taking part in the Romney Marsh Rotary ride came down when one rider touched the back wheel of the bike in front. One of these riders also sustained a broken collar bone.
On 1st August - no accidents!

Whilst not wishing to cause alarm, it is important that we are all aware of the hazards of riding a bike, particularly in a group. Some of the riders involved in the recent accidents will confirm that their cycle helmet has taken a battering and certainly reduced their injuries.

Best wishes to Peter, Eric and Deborah for a speedy recovery.
